The Surgeon (Endacopia): Who He Is, Songs, Cave & Ending C
If Henry is the threat, the Surgeon is the author. Almost everything strange in Endacopia traces back to his table.
Appearance and where he is
A humanoid robot with an endoskeleton body, a white mask-like face, three surgery-lamp lights (green, yellow, red) around his head, a white shirt with metal out the back and too-big white pants. In the prologue the hallway painting (two one-eyed figures watching you) falls after Clockey; crawl through and he is working on something fleshy with his back turned. He says “behind the walls” is relative — the place shifts like an organism, and indeed you find him once in every town on each run.
What he does
Reanimate dead family members, attach limbs, make pets out of spare flesh — “I can do it all… a freelance surgeon.” He confirms he made Clockey (“it likes to watch”) and is unbothered that Mellow killed it: “Dead, alive, kill, revive — interchangeable states of being.” His partner, the Bride, is “Un. Der. Ground.”
The songs
- Beautiful Creature — ask “Who are you?” in the prologue cave. A genius “way ahead of his time” who loved somebody beautiful and somebody strong, and stitched them together; the ship-of-Theseus verse about replacing boards, sails, crew and nails.
- Bury or Die — in the Timesville graveyard, when he is grave-robbing, ask if he should really be doing that. “Keep all failure in the basement, must stay ready for replacement… bury your friends, they’re means to an end.”
Ending C
The secret chain is, in his words, a sacred ritual: he refuses to let this world die, will perform a sacrifice, and use the Bride as a vessel. After Alt Clockey you enter his cave, read his book, sit, and type any question. He explains that Mellow is Rodger, how he died and was revived, what the Beast/God is, who Tip, Scribbly, the Toilet and Henry are, what the surface looks like, and — when asked if Mellow did well — “You did an amazing job.” We keep the recognised questions on the Surgeon questions page.
