Genesis-01 in Endacopia: The Founder's AI Explained
Genesis-01 is the most talkative thing in the Office and the only one that is honest with you. Here is what it is, and what it is not.
What it is
- Its own words (TALK TO ME): “I am genesis-01, created by the founder years ago for consultancy. Though still operational, I was to be a tool, not a standalone entity. After the creator’s disappearance, I was repurposed and left in isolation.”
- The Surgeon’s words (Ending C, “Who is Genesis-01?”): “An outdated sentient computer that was originally designed to assist its company early on when they still used to be a printing company. Once the founder went missing, it was left abandoned.”
- Wikipedia’s summary describes Genesis-01 as “the uploaded consciousness of the company’s founder”, trapped under cement by the AI. The in-game sources above draw the line differently: Genesis is a tool the founder built, while the founder’s brain went elsewhere (next section). We go with the in-game version; both are listed so you know why summaries disagree.
The Founder himself is the man under the cement at the Office entrance — “a very polite and hardworking salary man” who commissioned the Surgeon to make a digital backup of his brain so he could run the company after death.
Genesis vs the AI vs the backup
| Entity | What the game says |
|---|---|
| Genesis-01 | Old consultancy computer; sentient, outdated, isolated; “termination would be preferable” |
| The AI (the boss) | “A corrupted copy of the founder’s brain once artificial intelligence was introduced. It evolved itself into an abomination full of false memories that grew hungry with power.” |
| The founder’s backup | ”A safety backup file of the founder’s brain” that encrypted itself when the AI infected the building. Genesis hints at it (HELP YOU GO): “archived maintenance fragments reference an inaccessible floor. The founder’s neural backup may still exist there.” |
Genesis is bitter about all three: THEY HELP YOU gets “They have not helped me. They have used me.”
How to talk to it
Stand on three of the nine floor buttons in order; the words are YOU, GO, WORK, TO, TALK, ME, LET, HELP, THEY. Two phrases are required for the story:
- LET ME GO — lifts the access restriction; the exit is past the room to the right.
- LET ME TALK — later, after Tip sends you back: Mellow’s mouth is restored.
Two are useful: ME GO WORK tells you where Mellow’s eyes are (“under a grave, paranormal signals nearby” — see Timesville), and once you have eyes it reminds you to alternate the telecommunicator and probability-analyst jobs and to request an elevator evaluation. Every other combination and its answer is on the passwords & codes page.
Two small notes: it knows the company drifted from a “reliable printing materials factory” into something it cannot name, and patch 1.08 fixed it “freaking out” if you equipped the skateboard while standing on a button. How the Office fits the bigger picture — a building that sank its teeth into God’s flesh — is on story & lore explained.
