Mellow (Endacopia): Who He Is, His Real Name and Backstory

Mellow is the one character on screen in every scene of Endacopia — and, importantly, not the player. You are his guardian angel; Mellow is a curious, stubborn, slightly-too-brave child who does what you click.

Appearance and quirks

A short, pale, limbless figure with floating hands and feet, a red baseball cap, blue button-up shirt and red shoes; big cyan eyes. At the start of Chapter I he has lost his eyes, hands and mouth — each hub area gives one back (guide). He likes drawing, soccer, spaghetti and action figures, dislikes getting dirty and energy drinks, and is allergic to cheese. He cannot read, which the Surgeon later blames on a home that never sent him to school.

What the game tells you about him (spoilers)

  • His real name is Rodger Thompson — his reflection RODGER keeps calling him that, and the Surgeon confirms it.
  • He came from a broken home and fell off his father’s truck on the way home; NPCs variously call him “Marshmellow” and Henry calls him “boy”.
  • He died. Henry killed him with the mallet (RODGER: “red water coming out of your head”); the Surgeon brought him back, which is why he is stronger and smarter than a normal nine-year-old and why his memory is shot (plus the bonks and vent falls).
  • He chose the name Mellow after being revived; the Surgeon doesn’t know where it came from.
  • Ending B reunites him with his parents, brother and sister after he falls out from behind the family truck.

Mellow in each area

  • Prologue: learns to block and punch against Clockey (Tip teaches).
  • Misery Town: hands; wins the cat plushie by being mean on cue.
  • The Office: mouth; holds two jobs and gets a badge from Genesis-01’s scan.
  • Timesville: eyes; befriends Catthew, exposes Nibbles.

The Surgeon on Mellow

Ask “how old am I” → “about nine, judging by your teeth”. “Am I dead” → “brimming with life”. “Are you my dad” → “in another life”. “Did I do good” → “an amazing job”. The full list is on the Surgeon questions page.
